Starting a New Chat

  • Click the “New Chat” button on the upper left side.
  • A new chat screen will open with the preselected model.
  • Change the model if desired.

Selecting and Changing Language Models

  • Find the model selector at the top of the chat screen.
  • Click on the current model name to open the dropdown menu.
  • Choose your preferred model from the list of available options.
  • You can switch models at any time, even in the middle of a conversation:
    • Click the model name at the top of the chat
    • Select a new model from the dropdown menu
    • Your conversation will continue with the newly selected model

Experiment with different models to find the one that best suits your needs for each task or conversation. Learn more about the models we support.

Managing Chats

Chat History
  • Locate previous chats in the left side panel of your Hopkins AI Lab window.
  • For each chat, click:
    • “Rename” to change the chat title
    • The chat title to view the conversation history
    • “Duplicate” to create a copy of the conversation
    • “Archive” icon to archive the conversation
    • The trash icon to delete the conversation
  • Chat prompts and AI-generated responses are purged after 30 days of inactivity.
Archived Chats
  • Click on your account photo.
  • Go to Settings > General > Archived chats > Manage.
  • View a list of all your archived chats.
  • Choose to delete or unarchive chats as needed.
Export a Chat
  • Click the export icon on the upper right side of the window.
  • Choose from available formats (.png, .txt, .md, .json, and .csv).
  • Click the “Export” button to download your file.

Working with Files

Uploading Files to Your Chat
  • Click the upload icon on the left side within the prompt input.
  • Your file manager will open, allowing you to select files.
  • You can upload multiple files simultaneously.
  • After uploading, enter a prompt to instruct Hopkins AI Lab on how to process your files.
Attaching Previously Uploaded Files
  • Expand the sidebar on the right.
  • Select “Attach Files” to view a list of previously uploaded files.
  • To add files to your prompt, simply click on them, and they will be automatically included.
Deleting Files
  • Go to Account Management.
  • Click “Manage Files” to open a new window.
  • Check the box next to the file name(s) you want to remove.
  • Click the delete button to remove the selected file(s).
Supported File Types

Supported file types vary by selected model. Most support the following types:

  • Documents: .docx, .pdf, .txt, .rtf
  • Spreadsheets: .xlsx, .csv
  • Images: .jpeg, .png,. .gif
  • Presentations: .pptx, .odp
  • Code: .html, .css, .json, .js, .py (and more)

Bookmarks

Bookmarks allow you to organize and easily retrieve important chats within the Hopkins AI Lab. This feature enables you to categorize discussions by topic, project, or any other classification that suits your needs, making it simple to revisit and reference key information at any time.

Creating Bookmark Categories:
  • While viewing a chat, locate the bookmark icon at the top of the page.
  • Click the bookmark icon to open the bookmark menu.
  • Select ‘Create new category’ or a similar option.
  • Enter a name for the new category and confirm.
Saving a Chat to an Existing Bookmark Category: 
  • During a conversation, click the bookmark icon at the top of the interface.
  • In the dropdown menu, select the category where you want to save this chat.
  • The chat will be bookmarked under the chosen category.
Finding and Sorting Bookmarked Conversations:
  • In the left sidebar, click “Bookmarks.”
  • You’ll see a list of your created categories.
  • Select a category to view all conversations bookmarked under that category.

Creating specific categories helps organize your bookmarks by topic or project. Bookmark multiple chats under the same category for easy reference. Regularly organizing your bookmarks can help you quickly find and revisit important conversations.

Chat Features

  • Hands Free Chat
    • Speech to Text (STT)
      • Speak your prompt instead of typing for hands-free interaction.
      • Click the microphone icon on the right side of the prompt input.
    • Text to Speech (TTS)
      • Have messages read aloud using a computer-generated voice.
      • Click the speaker icon in the options menu below the model’s response.
  • Edit
    • Modify your prompt or the model’s response for improved results.
    • Click the pencil icon in the options menu below your sent prompt or the model’s response.
      • Save & Submit: Apply your edits and prompt the AI to generate a new response.
      • Save: Preserve your edits without requesting a new AI response.
      • Cancel: Exit the edit mode without applying any changes.
  • Copy to Clipboard
    • Quickly copy your prompt or the response for use in other applications or documents.
    • Click the copy icon in the options menu below your sent prompt or the model’s response.
  • Regenerate
    • Request a fresh response using the same prompt, which may yield different results.
    • Click the regenerate icon in the options menu below the model’s response.
  • Fork
    • Create a new conversation starting from a specific message.
    • This feature is useful for refocusing discussions, exploring separate scenarios, or preserving context while branching into new topics.
    • Click the fork icon in the options menu below your submitted prompt or the model’s response.

Right Sidebar

Prompts Management

Create, manage, and quickly access custom instructions for the AI model with the Prompts feature, streamlining your interactions. This powerful tool enables you to save frequently used queries or complex instructions, making your work with the Hopkins AI Lab more efficient and consistent.

  • Manage: Access prompt management options and settings.
  • Auto-send prompts: Toggle to automatically send saved prompts to the AI.
  • Filter prompts by name: Use search bar to quickly find specific saved prompts.
  • Create prompt: Add new custom prompts to your collection.
  • Navigation: Use ‘Prev’ and ‘Next’ buttons to browse through multiple pages of saved prompts.

Note: The “Nothing found” message indicates no saved prompts match your current filter or that you haven’t created any prompts yet.

Parameters

These are the configuration options for your LLM. To modify these parameters:

  • Click the configuration options button next to the selected model.
  • Modify settings before entering your prompt (optional).
  • Common Configuration Options:
    • Max context tokens: Maximum input size (1000 tokens ≈ 750 words)
    • Max output tokens: Maximum output size (1000 tokens ≈ 750 words)
    • Temperature: Controls response creativity (higher = more random)
    • Top P: Refines possible responses based on context
  • Options may vary between models.
  • Default settings work well for most users.
  • Experiment to find the best configuration for your needs.
Manage Bookmarks

The Bookmarks feature enables you to organize and quickly access your important conversations within the Hopkins AI Lab, enhancing your ability to retrieve and reference key information efficiently.

  • Filter bookmarks: Search bar to quickly locate specific bookmarks.
  • Bookmark list: Displays saved bookmarks with their titles and conversation counts.
  • Edit/Delete: Icons to modify or remove individual bookmarks.
  • Navigation: ‘Prev’ and ‘Next’ buttons to browse multiple pages of bookmarks.
  • New Bookmark: Button to create additional bookmark categories.
  • Page information: Shows the current range of bookmarks displayed.

Customize your Hopkins AI Lab experience with these options:

  • Theme: Choose between Light and Dark modes
  • Language: Select your preferred interface language
  • Markdown rendering: Toggle for user messages
  • Auto-Scroll: Enable/disable automatic scrolling to latest messages
