Quick Start Guide

To use the Hopkins AI Lab effectively, we suggest a learn by doing approach. Start with a set of simple instructions, or “prompts,” and explore responsibly. You don’t need any technical skills to begin – simply log in and experiment.

Log In

  1. Visit https://lab.ai.jh.edu.
  2. Click the Log In button.
  3. Enter your JHED credentials.
  4. Accept the Terms of Service.

Enter a Prompt

  1. Give the model an instruction or prompt in the input box in the center of the screen.
  2. Click “Send message” (up arrow icon) or press the Enter key and watch the model return a response.
  3. Evaluate the response. Be sure to check for mistakes or hallucinations.

Change the Model

  1. Click the model name in the dropdown menu located near the top left of the screen and choose a different option.
  2. Re-enter your prompt and click “Send message” (up arrow icon) or press the Enter key.
  3. Evaluate the response. Compare to the previous result.

New Chat

  1. When you are ready to provide a model with a new prompt, we suggest a new chat.
  2. From the top left of the AI Lab, click “New Chat.”
  3. Select a different model or stick with the current one.
  4. Enter a new prompt.
  5. Evaluate the response. Add more specificity to your prompt to fine tune the model’s response.
